Creative endeavors promote silence of mind, often resulting in communion with spirit. Painting is a highly spiritual act, that raises consciousness in ways no other activity has done for me.

Julian Potulicki paints in Nyack, New York, chasing the way tone and hue activate subtle scales of emotion. The work moves between a symbolic language of light, atmospheric horizons, and fields of pure color, always toward the same end: to heal by oscillating a vibration of feeling, striking a unique chord with each viewer.

A recurring current in the work is a painted alphabet of light: sacred sigils and glowing forms that read like a language just out of reach. First gathered as Light Codes, his debut solo exhibition at Metro Craft in 2025.

This idea that various powderized compounds ground into paste can then be blended with a hairy wand into pure magic of visual storytelling has never ceased to amaze me. Nothing excites me more than oil paint and its power to heal by oscillating a vibration of emotion, striking a unique chord with each individual viewer. Painting has all the qualities of a ceremony.
